We Welcome Our First Professional Member

CFA Society Uruguay is pleased to welcome Javier Barragán, who joins as the first member of our Society who does not hold the CFA designation.

In line with CFA Institute’s membership criteria, and following the amendment to our Bylaws approved in 2024, CFA Society Uruguay may admit investment professionals who, although not CFA charterholders, meet the requirements established for this membership category.

This option is intended to broaden our community and include professionals with relevant education and experience who are committed to ethics, education, and professional excellence.

Professional Membership Requirements

To apply, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a university degree or have an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Have passed one of the following examinations:
    • CFA Program Level I.
    • CIPM Program Level II.
    • The self-administered Standards of Practice Exam.
  • Have at least 4,000 hours of relevant professional experience, completed over a minimum period of 36 months.
  • Provide professional references:
    • 2 references if one of them is an active Regular Member of the local Society.
    • 3 references if none of them is an active Regular Member of the local Society.
  • Complete the application process and obtain approval from both CFA Institute and CFA Society Uruguay.

Membership does not grant the right to use the CFA designation, which is reserved exclusively for those who have completed all requirements for the CFA charter.

We congratulate Javier on joining our Society and hope he will be the first of many professionals to become part of our community through this membership option.
